Armstrong Siddeleys at the Goodwood Revival Meeting

Ladies in a Hurricane

There were several Armstrong Siddeleys at this year's Goodwood Revival meeting in September. Apart from David Welch's lovely Hurricane which he used as an official taxi for visiting celebrities, and Mike Darley's magnificent Siddeley Special which was on display, there were three of four other club members cars in the specially-reserved car park for pre 1965 cars. Regular AS members visiting this year included Jorge Arnhold, Jim Lovell and Claudio Lasagni who brought their Star, Hurricane and Sapphire 346 respectively with Claudio travelling all the way from Switzerland specially for the event. Tom Klein from Germany also visited but this year left his Siddeleys at home and arrived in a Morris 1000!

Apart from the terrific sight of multi-million pound cars racing each other as if they were just worth a few thousand pounds and the majority of visitors wearing period clothes, there was a wonderful flying display which included the only two remaining airworthy Avro Lancasters worldwide, the British one being joined by one having flown in from Canada for the summer season.
