21st Century Siege of Berkeley Castle

Siddeleys approach the castle

Berkeley Castle was owned by Roger de Berkeley and built in 1067, mainly to guard against an attack by the Welch. During the subsequent centuries, the Berkeley family have had many dramas there including the killing of King Edward 2nd and a brief occupation by Parliamentarians during the civil war. But the Current Earl of Berkeley must have been shaking in his boots on 21st June 2015 at the sight of a posse of South Midlands Armstrong Siddeleys approaching from the South at Dawn on the longest day of the year. The raiding party led by Colonel Leighton-Boyce and Squadron Leader Cooke however did not even get as far as the ramparts as they were met by what appeared to be a caravan garrison of Roundhead auto jumbleists and car boot sellers who had taken up their positions over night.

Even the arrival of some 500 other classic car reinforcements could not storm the ramparts.

Siddeleys on displayBut then the sun came out along with the ice creams, burgers, soft drinks and music and an excellent time was had by all. Thanks Ian for another great event.
