Local Area Group visits South Cerney

Members of the South Midlands Group thoroughly enjoyed their recent visit to The South Cerney Steam and Country Fair. The weather was perfect and six Armstrong Siddeleys, a Hotchkiss, a Daimler and a BMW made up the group which featured four prewar cars and also the prototype Mk2 Star which was the very last car Armstrong Siddeley produced.

After setting up the club stand area, club members were at a loss to know what to visit first as the show included some 40 steam engines, around 400 classic cars, a large collection of motor bikes hundreds of classic tractors, lorries and busses, an aerobatic display, parachutists, llamas, hawks, ferrets and roughly 100 trade stands. Needless to say, the auto jumble was the first to be visited by most, followed closely by the very impressive steam engines.

Our cars were very much a centre of attraction for members of the public who seemed to be pleased to see so many different models of what is a relatively rare marque. Our owners spent much time explaining the various differences in the models to interested passers by.

Many thanks go to Ian Leighton-Boyce for organising such a great outing for the group who look forward to a return visit next year.
