A Meeting of Cars, Planes and a Country House

Star

The latest South Midlands day out visited Kemble airport for lunch and Rodmarton House for tea! The weather was fantastic which ensured that there were plenty of aircraft taking off and landing to watch from our table on the terrace of the "AV8" cafe right under the control tower in the middle of the airfield. Our cars were lined up opposite the runway and were an added attraction for the many visitors to the airfield. After a good-value lunch we had a great photo opportunity alongside one of the last remaining Bristol Britannia aircraft which sadly although complete is no longer airworthy.Group shot

We then went in convoy to the nearby Rodmarton House which is a good example of an Arts and Crafts Manor House. The house is still privately owned by the same family and is only open to the public on just a few days in the summer. It contains a fine collection of original Arts and Crafts style furniture and objects. Ian Leighton-Boyce's 20hp looked magnificent on the driveway. The most enjoyable day finished with tea and home made cakes in the stable yard cafe. Thanks Ian for yet another excellent outing.
